POUGHKEEPSIE – A BOCES union president who stole more than $150,000 from his union through misappropriation between 2017 and 2020 was temporarily sent to the Dutchess County Jail on Monday. James “Jim” Fitzmaurice, 54, was arrested on November 16, 2020 but has been free until Monday.
Fitzmaurice entered a guilty plea to felony grand larceny recently but sentencing has been delayed under an agreement that requires Fitzmaurice to sell his Poughkeepsie home to make restitution to the union for the missing funds.
On Monday, Dutchess County Court Judge Edward McLoughlin remanded Fitzmaurice to the Dutchess County Jail without bail. He was handcuffed and removed from the courtroom. His next court appearance is November 13, 2023.
