POUGHKEEPSIE – A City of Poughkeepsie detective assigned to the Poughkeepsie Middle School called for assistance on Thursday afternoon as a result of a large-scale disturbance among students and former students. Police from the City of Poughkeepsie and surrounding agencies responded to the call for help and found several dozen students on the grounds, including some who were allegedly throwing items at the police.
City of Poughkeepsie Police Captain Rich Wilson said that two individuals under the age of 18 were taken into custody as part of the investigation. An 18-year-old resisted the police who were trying to take him into custody. He was eventually detained and transported to the police station.
Charges against the two youths and the 18-year-old are pending, according to Wilson.
Neighbors feared the worst when an ambulance arrived at the school and transported a student to MidHudson Regional Hospital for treatment of a condition unrelated to the fights that were broken up by police.
“No injuries related to the melee were reported by police, students, or staff,” Captain Wilson said.
