NEW ROCHELLE – Police in New Richelle had to use a Taser on a man who was high on drugs while holding a knife and a two-year-old in an apartment at 361 Main Street early Thursday morning.
When police entered the apartment at around 4:37 a.m., police found 43-year-old Lavon Mott lying on the floor while holding the child who was not his, and the knife.
Mott had blood on his face and dropped the knife when police tried to de-escalate the situation.
As he tried to grab the weapon again, police employed Tasers and physical force to stop him from grabbing it again and was subdued.
The child was transported to a hospital and was in stable condition, police said.
Two New Rochelle officers were injured in the struggle – one sustained a small laceration to his face and hand and the other, a laceration and bruise to his hand. Both were treated and released at the hospital, and both are currently out on injury leave.
Police said it was found that Mott entered his ex-girlfriend’s apartment while on drugs.
He was charged with burglary, unlawful imprisonment, assault, reckless endangerment, endangering the welfare of a child, menacing a police officer and criminal possession of a weapon.
