The New York Mets blanked the Washington Nationals, 7-0, on Thursday afternoon to complete the three-game sweep and improve to 47-45.
The game was scoreless until the fifth inning when the Mets put up a five spot, led by Brandon Nimmo’s bases-clearing double. J.D. Martinez and Pete Alonso added RBI singles in the frame.
Mark Vientos and Harrison Bader increased the lead in the eighth with run-scoring singles.
David Peterson tossed six scoreless while allowing four hits and three walks to go with five strikeouts.
Phil Maton made his Mets debut and struck out two in a 1-2-3 scoreless seventh.

The Mets will continue their homestand on Friday at 7:10 p.m. when they welcome the Colorado Rockies to Citi Field for three games before the All-Star break begins.
