TOWN OF CLINTON – An ambulance that was transporting a patient to a local hospital was involved in a hit-and-run accident on Monday morning. The incident occurred in the area of the Omega Institute at approximately 10:45 a.m.
According to fire officials, the ambulance crew had just left a call on Lake Road and was transporting a patient to a Poughkeepsie hospital when it was side-swiped by a box truck. The box truck was allegedly being operated over the speed limit and had forced the ambulance to the shoulder of the road, striking the ambulance mirror in the process.
The driver of the truck did not stop. The crew notified Dutchess County 911 of the incident and then continued to Poughkeepsie. No injuries to the patient or the ambulance crew were reported at the time of the incident.
Officers from the fire district and a Dutchess County Sheriff’s deputy responded to the area to begin searching for the truck.
The truck is described as a white Ford F-450 box truck, with dirt on it, that is frequently seen in the area of Lake Road and Fiddler’s Bridge Road.
Anyone who may have information regarding the incident or the owner of the truck is asked to call the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office at 845-486-3800.
