VILLAGE OF LIBERTY – Village of Liberty Police, Tuesday, arrested a 17-year-old male offender after an investigation into a shooting on South Main Street in the village.
Police had responded to the area of South Main Street at around 10 p.m. on May 20 where they found a 27-year-old man was located with two apparent gunshot wounds including one to the chest.
The victim was transported by Mobile Medic ambulance to Garnet Health Medical Center in the Town of Wallkill.
The teenage suspect was located and taken into custody at a residence in the Village of Ellenville at around 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 13. He was charged with attempted murder and criminal possession of a weapon, both as felonies.
The teen was arraigned and remanded to the custody of the Sullivan County Sheriff and ordered to be held at a location certified by the State Office of Children and Family Services in conjunction with the State Commission of Correction as a specialized secure juvenile detention facility for older youths.
He was then transported to the Rockland County Sheriff’s Office Corrections Division where he was lodged pending a future court appearance.
Village of Liberty Police were assisted in the investigation by the Sullivan County District Attorney’s Office, State Police, Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office, Ulster County Sheriff’s Office, and Village of Ellenville Police.
