POUGHKEEPSIE – The City of Poughkeepsie’s multi-million dollar commitment to improving the city parks is continuing with the completion of basketball court resurfacing at several parks.
City Superintendent of Parks and Recreation, and highly acclaimed high school basketball coach Brian Laffin said that the basketball courts at Hulme Park, Spratt Park, and Dongan Place Park have all been resurfaced. The courts now resemble the court surfaces at Pershing Avenue and Malcolm X Parks.
“The city’s commitment to parks and recreation has resulted in Poughkeepsie having the best basketball courts in Dutchess County,” Laffin dsid.
The basketball courts at College Hill and Pulaski Parks have yet to be renewed but future plans include those courts, Laffin noted. “Our goal is to have all of our great basketball courts be uniform.”
“The city is extremely proud of the work we have done on our parks, particularly of late,” said Mayor Marc Nelson. “Major improvements have been made to Pershing, Malcolm X, and Pulaski Parks, and all those projects have deservedly received a lot of public attention. But we are making improvements to other parks as well, such as resurfacing parking lots and some of the basketball courts as well. These projects are also important, as we strive to build the best park system for our city.”
