TOWN OF WALLKILL – October may be Breast Cancer Awareness Month, but the key to good health is early detection, regardless of the month or age of the individual.
That is the word from Dr. Nathaniel Margolis of the Breast Center at Garnet Health Medical Center in the Town of Wallkill.
“You have to keep in mind that breast cancer is the leading cancer among women in this country and if there is a test or a screening that can be done to save lives, then that is the priority,” he said.
According to the National Breast Cancer Foundation, more than 700 women in the US are diagnosed with breast cancer every day. And, while the disease is not as common among men, they too can develop the disease.
The first line of defense is monthly self-examinations and if the person detects a change in their breasts, to see their doctor.
