TOWN OF HIGHLAND – A 36-year-old Yulan man has been arrested by the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office for operating an illegal marijuana dispensary in the parking lot at the former Carriage House, now River’s Edge, in the Town of Highland.
Deputies were tipped off when the suspect, identified as John Lomio, tried to sell pot to people working in a nearby garden, not knowing they worked at a drug rehab facility.
Cannabis may be sold in New York but only at licensed facilities.
They tipped off the sheriff’s office, and Undersheriff Eric Chaboty set up undercover surveillance.
Highland Town Supervisor Jeff Haas said they won’t tolerate that type of illegal activity. “The Town of Highland is not a place for those who seek to commit quality of life crimes or peddle illegal and illicit substances to its residents and visitors,” he said.
Sheriff Mike Schiff had a warning. “If you think this is the place to be breaking the law in that manner and dispensing drugs to possibly children, and even adults that shouldn’t be having this stuff, you will find a problem here,” he said.
Investigators found pot, hallucinogenic, and cash in Lomio’s house and car.
