KINGSTON – A Kerhonkson man was arrested on Tuesday after allegedly stealing money from a bank account of a senior citizen he was hired to take care of. Vincent VanLeuven, 32, an EMT with Ellenville First Aid & Rescue has been charged with felony grand larceny and identity theft after police said he stole more than $150,000 from the 78-year-old victim.
The Ulster County Sheriff’s Office received a report of money missing from a person’s accounts at KeyBank and Fidelity Investments. The detective bureau quickly learned that VanLeuven had been hired by the elderly victim to serve as an assistant. The investigation determined that VanLeuven had been stealing money from the victim’s accounts since January 2023 by using the victim’s online sign-on credentials. Detectives say VanLeuven used PayPal and other wire transfers to move the money from the victim’s accounts to his own, without the victim’s knowledge or permission.
VanLeuven was issued an appearance ticket returnable in the Town of Rochester Justice Court at a future date.
