NEWBURGH – The City of Newburgh has yet to win one of the state’s annual $10 million Downtown Revitalization awards, but officials are not giving up.
They are putting together a new application in hopes of winning one this time around.
Mayor Torance Harvey said among the spending would be funds to build a new dock at Newburgh Landing on the Hudson River. The current dock, which has long collapsed, was constructed to welcome the state’s Bicentennial Barge in 1976.
The mayor said they have other plans as well.
“We are also again looking at the downtown corridor, looking at the hillside overlooking the Hudson, and maybe some remediation for things that need to be remediated, and bring some connectivity from the waterfront businesses to the downtown Broadway corridor,” he said.
Some have been critical of the successful redevelopment of the waterfront while little has been done to breathe new life into the Broadway corridor.
