NEWBURGH – Orange County firefighters bagpipes started to play as the Newburgh Fire Department color guard presented the colors and the order of attention for present arms was given at the City of Newburgh’s annual 9/11 commemoration on Monday.
City police also attended to pay their respects to the victims.
After the Colors were in place, Chief of the Department FJ Spinelli welcomed everyone to the ceremony and introduced the chaplain of the fire department, Peter Haight, who gave the opening prayer.
Chief Spinelli began reading the names of the Orange County residents who lost their lives on September 11, 2001. He was followed by Senator Rob Rolison, Deputy Newburgh Town Supervisor Scott Manley and Assemblymen Johnathon Jacobson who continued reading the names. A bell was rung after the names followed by the bagpipers playing “Amazing Grace.”
Deacon Haight offered the closing prayer. Everyone came to attention as the colors were retired.
