MONTICELLO – The State Comptroller’s Office has designated Sullivan County free of fiscal stress with the county’s finances continued to be in the best shape since reporting began.
Legislature Chairman Rob Doherty said the county’s fiscal picture has turned around in the last four years.
“The last legislature had overspent their revenues three years in a row, and we knew that financial stability was the key to grow the county. We have now achieved that goal and now it is a brighter day for Sullivan County going forward,” he said.
County Manager Josh Potosek said the latest report “reaffirms that we continue to maintain county government’s fiscal stability.”
In 2019, the county earned a fiscal stress score of 42.1 points. That improved to 35.8 in 2020 – with a lower score indicating better finances.
In 2021, that score dropped to 13.3 and in 2022, it is down tto 3.3 point.
Management and Budget Committee Chairman George Conklin said the leaders of county administration” keep taxpayers in mind by safeguarding public funds and using them where appropriate.” He said the latest comptroller’s rating “dramatically illustrates that point.”
