HARRISON – State and local officials cut the ribbon on the 143-apartment Avalon Harrison affordable housing project on Monday. Two-bedroom apartments in the new community rent for more than $4,000 per month.
The facility, constructed by AvalonBay Communities, also includes 5,000 square feet of interior amenities for residents and 27,000 SF of street-level retail and commercial space.
The facility is called a transit-oriented development because it is constructed adjacent to the Harrison Metro-North station.
Governor Kathy Hochul, who attended a ribbon-cutting ceremony, said Westchester has much to offer, but is in the continued need for housing.
“Thriving healthcare institutions, the growing economy, Regeneron just up the road with $1.8 billion in investment in Tarrytown, Lions Gates – who would have thought this county would be the epicenter of new film production – Hollywood on the Hudson nearing completion,” she said. “And up the road at IBM, a $20 billion investment in semiconductor and Quantum computing.”
The MTA, through its Metro-North Railroad system north of New York City, has been working with property owners and municipalities to promote development around train stations that increase accessibility and provide housing, retail shops, office and public improvements.
