WAPPINGERS FALLS – The cause of a fire that caused significant damage to a single-family home on Old State Road Wednesday morning is under investigation by the Dutchess County Fire Investigation Division. The fire was originally reported to 911 as “visible smoke coming from a residence” just before 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, November 8, 2023.
The first personnel from the Hughsonville Fire Department were on the scene within four minutes and the commanding officer confirmed the smoke, encountered a subject evacuating the structure, and requested a second alarm to bring additional personnel and equipment from the New Hackensack, Village of Fishkill, Chelsea, and Castle Point Fire Departments to the scene.
The bulk of the fire was located in the rear living room and aggressive firefighting tactics contained the fire to the rear of the structure.
One civilian and one firefighter were transported to local hospitals for evaluation as a result of smoke inhalation. The Hughsonville Fire Department has said the cause of the fire is not considered suspicious but it remains under investigation.
In addition to the fire departments, the Town of Wappinger EMS, Dutchess County Emergency Response, and the New York State Police assisted at the scene.
