MID-HUDSON – Democrats have been elected to the District Attorney position in three Hudson Valley counties. Anthony Parisi is the first Democrat to ever be elected to the position in Dutchess County. Parisi is currently serving as a bureau chief in the office and will take the top spot on January 1, 2024. The victory gives Democrats control of two countywide elected offices, with Robin Lois serving as county comptroller.
In Ulster County, Democrat Manny Nneji, the Chief Assistant District Attorney defeated Michael Kavanagh, a Republican who previously served as the office’s chief assistant prosecutor years ago. Nneji will take office on January 1, 2024.
To the north, Columbia County Democratic Chairman Sam Hodge has been helping to put Democrats in countywide offices. With the election of Chris Liberati-Conant as District Attorney, the Democrats have the DA’s Office, Sheriff, Coroner, and both judgeships. Republicans have control of the County Clerk and County Treasurer. In 2021, the Republicans controlled every countywide office.
On election night, the Liberati-Conant said “We’re here to make the District Attorney’s office a place of transparency, fairness, and accountability for all,” adding “Together we’ll forge a path that truly serves the people of Columbia County, no matter their background or circumstances.”
