POUGHKEEPSIE- A recent survey released by Marist Poll indicates that the approval rating of New York Governor Kathy Hochul has taken a hit as a result of the majority of New Yorkers expressing dissatisfaction with the quality of life in the Empire State.
The poll indicated that a majority of residents statewide, including more than four in ten Democrats, do not think Hochul is changing Albany for the better. Nearly six in ten New York State residents (59 percent) think the quality of life in New York has gotten worse during the past year, 11 percent say it has gotten better, and 30 percent believe it has not changed. 46 percent of Democrats, 78 percent of Republicans, and 67 percent of non-enrolled voters perceive a deterioration in New York’s quality of life.
Hochul’s overall job approval sits at 42 percent, down 7 percent since 2021.
The survey also asked voters what they thought about the job New York City Mayor Eric Adams was doing. A majority, 54 percent, of New York City residents disapprove of how Mayor Adams is doing his job, and 37 percent approve.
“There’s no good news for New York’s major officials,” says Lee M. Miringoff, Director of the Marist College Institute for Public Opinion. “Governor Hochul’s standing has deteriorated in the state, Mayor Adams faces a more negative constituency, and Representative Santos has hit rock bottom.”
75 percent of New Yorkers, including 83 percent of Long Island residents, think Representative George Santos should resign from Congress.
