POUGHKEEPSIE – The pledge by MJN Convention Center President Zeidan Nesheiwat to “bring more people to Poughkeepsie” was fulfilled again on Saturday night. With an internationally recognized comedian Jo Koy headlining the show, a sellout crowd of 2,700 traveled to the Dutchess County seat for a night of laughter.
The traffic volume along Main and Market Streets required two Dutchess County Sheriff’s deputies to direct attendees trying to find parking. Free parking was available across from the venue at the city-owned Financial Parking Deck. Typically the city will assign parking attendants during high-volume shows and charge $10 or more to park in the structure but no city workers were present on Saturday night. In recent history, the city has been charging to park for shows with less than half the number of people that attended Koy’s performance.
On their way to the show, a couple from Kingston told Mid-Hudson News that they went to four different area restaurants before they were able to get seats for dinner prior to the 8:00 p.m. show. “The restaurants were packed with people,” the man said. “We were very lucky to get two seats at a place down on Main Street.”
“We are continuing our plan of bringing well-known entertainment to the MJN. It’s good for the facility and it’s good for the Poughkeepsie economy,” said Nesheiwat.
Performing with Jo Koy were King Bach and Joey Guila.
