ALBANY- A poll released by Unite NY, a not-for-profit non-partisan voter engagement and empowerment group revealed that most New Yorkers support term limits for elected officials.
According to the data, 80 percent of New Yorkers support term limits for the Governor and other statewide elected officials. Additionally 56 percent of those polled said that the state is headed in the wrong direction and nearly 40 percent of respondents said they were considering leaving the state.
“Voters have told us in a remarkably consistent manner the state is on the wrong track, and they are ready to leave,” said Tim Dunn Unite NY’s Executive Director. “This is a powerful message we believe lawmakers should take to heart as we head into the 2024 legislative session. Democracy is good, more democracy is better, and voters have noticed.”
In January 2022 Governor Hochul announced a plan to institute term limits for statewide elected officials, however, no progress to this end has been made since her announcement.
