MAMAKATING- Historically, good weather helps promote voter turnout on election day, and on Tuesday Spring-like temperatures in the area motivated a few additional voters to head out to the polls.
In the Town of Mamakating, elections inspector Lisa Ogilvie joked that the weather was so nice that she was tempted to move the machines outside so voters could enjoy the beautiful weather as they cast their votes.
Inspector JoAnn Salamone, who has been working at the Mamakating poll site for 20 years, said the voter turnout was about average. She said the majority of voters come between 3 p.m. and 7 p.m.
The message to voters from Olgivie is, “It’s your right to vote. Whoever you vote for, you should come out and vote. No matter what election it is, if you want your voice to be heard you need to vote.”
