DOVER – State Senator Michelle Hinchey (D, Saugerties) has submitted testimony to the State Public Service Commission opposed to a rate hike request by the Dover Plains Water Company.
The business is seeking a 68 percent rate increase and a $30 per quarter surcharge on residents’ water bills.
“Access to clean water is not just a necessity but a fundamental right, and preserving this right means keeping water affordable for our residents,” Hinchey said. “This proposed rate hike is dramatically out of line with the fixed and moderate incomes of Dover residents and would inflict severe financial strain on people and families.”
Hinchey said no one should have to make the choice between paying their rent or mortgage, heating their home, putting food on the table, or paying their water bill.
The senator urged residents to make their voices heard by submitting their own testimony to the PSC.
