Dear Editor,
There is no reason to relitigate the history of Arab attempts to exterminate Israel since 1948, and the valiant efforts of the Jewish people to survive there after the Holocaust. But despite all the disinformation and hysteria about this latest attempt to destroy the Jewish State, a few relevant facts come to mind.
In 1932, the two-year-old baby of celebrity air pioneer Charles Lindbergh was kidnapped. Two months later, the murdered body of the child was found. Because of this, kidnapping became a federal crime punishable by death, and it is clearly understood that the safety of any abducted victim lies solely with the kidnapper. If the victim is harmed in an attempted rescue, the kidnapper is totally held liable.
On October 7, Hamas terrorists from unoccupied Gaza murdered 1,400 Jews and kidnapped approximately 220, mostly Israelis and others from twenty countries. 20 are children, one as young as four months old. The Jews of Ulster County, some elderly survivors of the Holocaust and many of us with relatives and friends in Israel, clearly understand that the lives of the kidnapped, like all of Israel, have been put in jeopardy by Hamas and its twisted supporters. Israel’s response to defend itself, and the wellbeing and rescue of the hostages is all on the heads of Hamas.
