VILLAGE OF RHINEBECK – Mayor Gary Bassett officially introduced newly-appointed Trustee John Penney at the board meeting on Tuesday night. After spending more than two decades as a journalist who covered government meetings, this was his first time sitting at the table as a lawmaker. The Rhinebeck resident was appointed to the position by Mayor Bassett and took his official oath of office on November 9, 2023.
Coverage of Penney’s background and appointment can be found here.
One of Penney’s first official acts was to join his colleagues in unanimously approving a change work order submitted by Superintendent of Public Works Kyle Eighmy. The order was needed, according to Eighmy, to properly address the current drainage project while preparing the area for the milling and re-paving in the spring of 2024.
The cost associated with the change order is $29,460. Eighmy told the trustees that the additional work would begin on Wednesday, November 15, 2023.
