Women’s History Month profile: Thompson Sanitation’s Krissy Walsh (VIDEO)

THOMPSON- Krissy Walsh, the owner of Thompson Sanitation in Rock Hill, says it isn’t always easy being a woman in the garbage business, but that hasn’t stopped her from running one of the area’s largest refuse companies.  Walsh’s interview is the first in a series of stories about female leaders in the community for March, which is Women’s History Month.

When asked specifically about the challenges of being a female business owner, Walsh said that sometimes it’s not easy pushing into an industry that has historically been controlled by men.

“It’s tougher dealing with other businesses that are maybe predominantly male-oriented,” she said.  “I do feel that that world is shifting and there are so many women that are coming into roles that are running businesses that were predominantly male-oriented.  So, it’s leveling out the playing field.”

When asked if she considered herself a pioneer and role model for other women, Walsh said she didn’t really think of herself in specifically in that light.

“To me, any woman that is doing something positive in their life, I’m always a champion, I always offer any advice I can,” she said.
