Members of Buffalo’s Polish and Hispanic communities will come together to share their common Roman Catholic faith and disparate Christmas traditions at 5 p.m. Saturday in the social center across the street from St. Stanislaus Church, 389 Peckham St., according to the president of the General Pulaski Association.
Joseph Mikolaj Rej Jr. said the free event will include a traditional Polish Christmas Eve meal called Wigilia, which features the sharing of a Christmas wafer called oplatek that is eaten as participants wish each other well. The affair will also include a Puerto Rican Yuletide festival known as Parrandas that will feature live music by Vitin y los Trovadores. Also planned for the event is a basket raffle.Â
A Mass offered by clergy from both the Polish and Hispanic communities is scheduled to start at 4 p.m. in St. Stanislaus Church. The Wigilia and Parrandas events will follow.
