Road closures in downtown Buffalo for the New Year’s Eve celebrations were announced Thursday by Mayor Byron Brown’s staff.
The 36th annual Buffalo Ball Drop and Fireworks Celebration at the Electric Tower will begin at 10:00 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 31st in Roosevelt Plaza, featuring live music by The Strictly Hip and Saxophonist Will Holton. The ball drop at midnight will be followed by fireworks.
Buffalo officials recommend motorists avoid that area all day Sunday.
The following roads will be closed from 4 p.m. Sunday to 2 a.m. Monday:
East Huron Street, between Pearl and Ellicott streets; Genesee Street, between Huron and Ellicott; Main Street, between Mohawk and Chippewa streets; and Washington Street, between Mohawk and Chippewa.
In addition, Chippewa Street, between Delaware Avenue and Pearl, will be closed from 1 p.m. Sunday to 6 a.m. Monday.
A ridesharing zone will be set up on New Year’s Eve on Pearl Street, between Huron and Chippewa, and free parking will be available at Mohawk Ramp and Fernbach Ramp.
