Car-pedestrian fatality in Sullivan County

THOMPSON – An early afternoon accident Wednesday in the Town of Thompson claimed the life of a man who was struck by a vehicle while loading construction equipment on a trailer, the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office reported Thursday.

Deputies investigating the 12:30 p.m. incident at 85 Anawana Lake Road found a victim who had been struck by a 2021 Hyundai Tucson that was travelling eastbound. The driver of the Tucson stopped and remained on the scene. 

The victim, who was pronounced dead by Sullivan County Coroner Alan Kesten, was identified as 22-year-old Alexander Ramirez Tello of Woodridge.

Deputies said he was working for a construction company at the Miami Beach Cottages near Rhapsody Lane. 

No arrests were made at the scene, but the matter remains under investigation. 

Deputies were assisted by state police, the Monticello Fire Department, Mobile Medic and Hatzolah EMS.
