A.J. Baynes, the president of the Amherst Chamber of Commerce, didn’t miss an opportunity at the Chamber’s recent annual meeting to razz a friend and former classmate.
Baynes started things off by introducing the elected officials who showed up for the event held earlier this month at the Reikart House.
Then he got to his former schoolmate at St. Joseph’s Collegiate Institute, Buffalo Common Council Member Joel Feroleto.
“His seat’s empty. But we went to high school together and he was usually skipping class,” Baynes, like Feroleto a member of the St. Joe’s Class of 2000, said to laughs.
“Sorry about that one, Joel,” he added.
After the meeting, a Buffalo News reporter spotted Feroleto talking to Baynes and approached the Council member to give him a chance to defend his honor.
“We graduated from St. Joe’s together. I may have missed a class or two,” Feroleto said dryly. “However, I was standing in the back of the room here when A.J. pointed out that I wasn’t in my seat.”
This prompted them to list other Marauders in positions of influence: Amherst Supervisor Brian Kulpa, who gave his State of the Town address at the Chamber meeting, and State Sens. Tim Kennedy and Rob Ortt.
