Holiday Twin Rinks was forced to close once again due to carbon monoxide issues.
In a Facebook message on Saturday afternoon, rink officials blamed the closure on an ice resurfacer having emissions issues.
“We are frustrated that they either didn’t seem to have CO detectors, or if they did, they were obviously not functional,” parent Sara Hornung said. “I think it’s important to note that it was the parents who responded and called 911.”
The rink in Cheektowaga had reopened Jan. 5 after fixing a heating issue that sent at least 90 people to the hospital with carbon monoxide poisoning and caused the rink to be closed for about two weeks. The carbon monoxide leak happened the evening of Dec. 27, while a youth hockey tournament was going on at the indoor facility.
According to reports, a youth hockey game was in progress Saturday when the carbon monoxide detector went off, leading to the teams leaving the ice and then joining spectators in exiting the facility.
“Due to our recently updated Olympia Ice Resurfacer again having emissions issues, and in the interest of safety, we have decided to remain closed for Sat.
