This Thanksgiving Day, families across the Buffalo area will follow their own tradition: having strangers roast their turkey and whip their potatoes.
Squads of food and kitchen professionals are ready to take one for the team to offer gluten-free, dine-in and takeout options, and even a free meal.
Niagara County Produce will take your order for Thanksgiving up to Nov. 22, and get you all set with a ready-to-heat dinner for six to eight ($89.99). That includes 2 pounds each green bean casserole, herbed stuffing, sweet potato casserole, Yukon Gold mashed potatoes, a quart of turkey gravy, a pint of cran-apple orange sauce, and a 4-pound turkey breast. Gluten-free option: The completely gluten-free restaurant Kith & Kin Bakeshop & Bistro (5850 S. Transit Road, Lockport) is offering a meal to feed four ($75). It offers turkey, mashed potatoes (not dairy-free), stuffing, corn, gravy, cranberry sauce, dinner rolls and choice of pie (like apple crumb, chocolate silk, pumpkin or coconut cream). Order by noon Nov. 17 via phone or online. Pick up is from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Nov. 16-18, Nov. 21, 22.
A free meal: Salem Lutheran Church (10 McClellan Circle, salembuffalo.com) will hand out a free dinner starting at noon Nov. 19 until 250 dinners are handed out. It’s first come, first served. Dinner includes cranberry sauce and pumpkin pie served drive-thru style.
