A third employee of a Newfane day care center has been charged with endangering children, and the facility will close.
Earl V. Wells of e3 communications and a spokesman for Sweet Angels Daycare, said in a statement that the day care and preschool recently “separated from” a former employee who has been charged by state police with child endangerment.
“As this is a legal matter regarding a former employee, we will have no further comment on this matter,” the statement read.
In September, troopers announced that two employees of the day care had been charged with child endangerment following allegations of abuse levied earlier this year.
Victoria Stanton, 22, of Lockport, and Karon Anterline, 66, of Newfane, were arrested in September. Stanton was charged with two counts of child endangerment, while Anterline was charged with one count.
Troopers reported this week that Alexis M. Cleveley, 22, of Newfane, was charged Dec. 15 with three counts of child endangerment.Â
A second statement was also released on behalf of Sweet Angels Daycare announcing plans for the Newfane location to close Dec. 29.
The day care business has other locations in Lockport, North Tonawanda and the Town of Tonawanda.
“We have made the parents and caregivers of the approximately 25 children who attended daycare at Newfane aware of the decision to close. Employees at the Newfane location will be offered opportunities at our other locations across the area,” the statement read.
“This decision was not made lightly but given recent developments, including charges filed against former employees as well as demographic and staffing challenges, the operations at Newfane simply became unfeasible,” the statement said. “We appreciated having the privilege to provide daycare and early childhood learning services to children in the Newfane and surrounding community.”
