State grant will support celebration of solar eclipse at Knox Farm

The Friends of Knox Farm State Park have been awarded a $35,000 matching grant from the state Environmental Protection Fundโ€™s Park and Trail Partnership Grants program for their EAclipse Celebration during the total solar eclipse April 8 at the park in East Aurora. The Friends raised an additional $10,000 in matching funds from Erie County for a total of $45,000.

The grant covers most of the production costs for the family-friendly event, which will include educational STEM programming, safe-viewing guidance, live music, food and beverage vendors, and EAclipse merchandise. Tickets will be available for $15 in mid-January at friendsofknoxfarm.org.

The grant, announced by Gov. Kathy Hochul, is one of 27 awards totaling $1.8 million for organizations dedicated to the stewardship and promotion of state parks and historic sites, trails and public lands.

Other grants in Western New York include $106,000 to Frank Lloyd Wrightโ€™s Martin House in Buffalo to hire a curatorial associate, $35,000 to the Aquarium of Niagara in Niagara Falls for a marketing campaign to promote the upcoming Great Lakes 360 exhibits and $239,564 to the Boutwell Hill Ski Club to make the Homestead cross-country ski trial suitable for year-round use in Boutwell Hill State Forest near Cherry Creek in Chautauqua County.
